Dressing For Holidays

Is your social calender already booked for the holiday season? What does your closet look like? Take the following advice for looking good during the holidays...

The holidays are supposed to be a break in our everyday lives — something special that lifts us out of the mundane. Part of what makes an occasion feel special for us, and contributes to an atmosphere that makes it feel special to others, is how we dress. Sit down to Thanksgiving dinner in a t-shirt and jeans and it feels like any other day; dress a little sharper and it feels more like a holiday.

Pack Lightly This Holiday Season

Are you traveling for the holidays? This can be the most stressful time of year to travel, made even worse with luggage restrictions. The following article explains how to pack every outfit you need in one piece of luggage.

One silk top. It doesn't take up much space, and it is worthwhile to have along for an alternate, more formal look. It can be worn under a sweater in cold weather or with pants or a skirt in warm climates. Fold in half and lay on top of the other shirts.

Layer In Style

Layering is essential in the colder months, but there is an art to it. It is not impossible to look stylish while still keeping warm.

There’s no denying it, temperatures are definitely beginning to drop now. After a fairly mild autumn it’s easy to forget how bitter a cold snap can be here in the UK, which is why we highly recommend mastering the art of winter layering before the frost really sets in.

The Little Black Dress

Nothing wows more than the little black dress, it is a classic for a reason. Holiday parties are a great time to break out the little black dress; just dry-clean and you're ready to go.

A Good Blazer Can Work Wonders

When you want to spruce up a casual outfit, nothing works better than a nice blazer.Take good care of your blazer, and you will get a lot of use out of it.

Forget the “rules” you’ve learned about wearing a blazer and wear it the way your parents would never want you to. That is, with an oversized scoop neck sweater and baggy trousers rolled all the way up to show off your non-dress socks. I mean who wants to look like an off-duty finance bro on the weekends anyway? That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with wearing the classic blazer/tie combo, but if that’s not your normal thing you can still incorporate one into your wardrobe in a way that better “suits” (see what I did there?) your personal style. I’m more of a laid-back, casual guy myself so a slouchy dressed up look is more up my alley. Depending on what you like, you can pair a blazer with a turtleneck, a casual button down, or even a t-shirt. There’s more than one way to wear a blazer so don’t think that just because you’re not wearing a tie that you can’t make one work with your look.

For The Love Of Khaki

For the most versatility and wear, look to a khaki pant. This wardrobe staple can be dressed up or dressed down with ease.

Flat front khakis will give you a leaner silhouette and also tend to look dressier. A mid-rise fit and natural waist help to create a comfortable and crisp look. A classic strait or lightly tapered leg continues a more tailored and modern look and allow for a sight break that can work with oxfords or boat shoes. The no-break look favored by some seeking a tailored mod effect can work, but it makes no allowance for error or physical changes, so be forewarned.

Should You Tuck In Your Shirt?

To tuck or not to tuck, that is the question. When is it appropriate to leave your shirttail loose? The following advice piece will show you when and how to wear your shirts....

If you’re adventurous, try the half-tuck. Tuck in half of your shirt, letting the other section fall over to the side of your belt buckle. The front-tuck, with both sections tucked behind the belt buckle (as seen on The Sartorialist), is another variation. This look falls into more casual territory, but it also has a bit of debonair flair (see David Beckham rock it) and shows that you’re comfortable experimenting. Proceed with caution, though, and trust your gut – the partial tuck can easily go wrong.

How To Dress Nicely Without Breaking The Bank

Dressing nicely shouldn't break your bank, but it can be frustrating when everything costs so much. We will take the care of your clothing that will make it last a lifetime, without using all of your disposable income. Here are some more tips on dressing nicely without spending a fortune...

Regardless of your body type, start looking for a skilled alterations tailor and learn what elements can and cannot be tailored successfully. Take a look at the work they offer and how they accomodate individual requests for difficult tasks, such as shortening a sleeve from the sleevehead. If they can do that properly, so the sleeves hang nicely without bumps on the sleevehead or wrinkles in the sleeves, chances are they can do everything else you need them to do. However, even if you find the best alterations tailor bear in mind they are not magicians. As such, you cannot buy jackets that are too long or too short because even though there might be some fabric reserve, the buttonholes and the position of the pockets can’t be changed. Also, if the shoulders don’t fit, it is going to be difficult to fix it, just like the front-back balance.
